Message from our Senior Pastor.

You know how some churches get noticed for what—or who—they’re against? Here at Sunnyvale SDA Church, we’re not about that life.  Our doors are (literally and figuratively) wide open. I know many of you are reading this and checking websites and social media pages to compare churches that you’d like to visit, so let me put this out here– If you’re looking for community, support, or a place to use your talents in service to humanity, consider this your official welcome. Here’s a bit more about “Sunnyvale”.

We love people. We love people with magenta hair, folks navigating messy relationships, parents raising a kid on their own. We love those wrestling with secret addictions, or health challenges or depression. We especially love people who have big questions about organized religion or the reason for faith in general.  We’re a mixed bag of backgrounds and stories—and we happen to think that’s exactly how Jesus wants it.

“Am I okay worshiping alongside people whose journeys might look totally different from mine?”

The real question isn’t “Do I fit in?” but rather, “Am I okay worshiping alongside people whose journeys might look totally different from mine?” If your answer is yes, then guess what? You absolutely belong here. After all, Jesus hung out with fishermen, tax collectors, doubters, zealots—you name it, He welcomed them. We specifically put people in leadership positions who believe that everyone belongs in the family of God.

So whether you’re all about classic hymns or can’t do church without a guitar solo, lean left, lean right, or just prefer no label at all, we have room for you. Life is messy, faith is a process, and we’d love to walk it together.

We hope you’ll join us for lunch, or a service activity or feel brave enough to walk into a worship service. We’re all about exploring faith and life as a group–life situations and tough questions and all. Because Jesus didn’t say, “Come to me, all you who have it together.” He said, “Come to me, all you who are weary.” Let’s be real: in today’s world, who isn’t weary?

Grace and peace,

Rob Colon
